Seeing the puzzled expression on Gu Jiu Ge’s face, Xiaowei continued, “The Second Madam was originally a maidservant, but because of her beauty, the Prime Minister favored her, and she became pregnant. This earned her the position of a concubine. She is known for being mild and uncompetitive. The Third Miss of the household is her daughter.”

“Second Madam, what brings you here so early?” Gu Jiu Ge asked as she met the Second Madam for the first time. Although her appearance wasn’t particularly striking, there was something comforting and pleasant about her presence.

“Young Master, I heard you had returned, so I came to see you.”

Gu Jiu Ge couldn’t help but find the Second Madam’s behavior a bit odd, especially the way she looked at her—as if she were reuniting with an old friend. This feeling lingered even after the Second Madam left.

“Xiaowei, investigate this Second Madam.”

“Yes, Young Master.”

“The Crown Prince? He arrived rather quickly.”

“Not feeling well? I know a bit about medicine. Why don’t I take a look at you?” Gu Jiu Ge suggested with interest.

“We’ve arrived.” the steward said, wiping the sweat from his brow.

“So soon? Well, if you ever need my help with that illness, remember to find me at Tinglan Pavilion.” Gu Jiu Ge said, sounding regretful.

Inside the room, Gu Jiu Ge sat casually, legs crossed, munching on fruit as she studied the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister had a square face with slightly graying sideburns and a mustache—typical of Tianqi’s Prime Minister.

The man remained silent, but Gu Jiu Ge wasn’t in any hurry. When it came to patience, she had plenty.

The Prime Minister, having only heard of this son but never seen him, had already considered giving up on him. If not for the War King’s recent request that all court ministers send one son to participate in training, the Prime Minister likely wouldn’t have even remembered this son’s existence. Seated beside the Prime Minister was the Crown Prince.

“Insolent! How dare you behave so rudely in the presence of the Crown Prince!” the Prime Minister suddenly shouted.

“Why so loud, Prime Minister? Surely, you know that I was raised in the countryside without proper guidance, so how would I know the proper etiquette when meeting the Crown Prince? Besides, I didn’t even know he was the Crown Prince!”

“You… unfilial son! Show your respect immediately!” the Prime Minister barked, then turned to the Crown Prince with a respectful tone. “Your Highness, this is the son we recently brought back from the countryside. We truly don’t know who this woman you mentioned could be.”

“Old man, you can’t just make things up. I clearly came here on my own. No wonder I waited so long without seeing anyone sent by the Prime Minister; you must have sent them to fetch someone else!” Gu Jiu Ge retorted, refusing to let him off the hook. She noticed the Prime Minister’s expression darkening and couldn’t help but smirk.

“It seems the Prime Minister’s account doesn’t quite match with what the Young Master is saying.”
