Young Miss from the Feng Family - FJXM Chapter 19
“Indeed, the people I sent that day didn’t bring my son back. They returned with an empty carriage.” the Prime Minister admitted.
“Prime Minister, your loyalty to the court has always been unquestionable. I, of course, trust that you haven’t been misled.” the Crown Prince said with a reassuring tone. “I swear my allegiance to His Majesty until death!” the Prime Minister quickly pledged.
“Very well. Since today’s incident was my mistake, I’ll take my leave.” the Crown Prince said, preparing to depart.
“Farewell, Your Highness!”
Before leaving, the Crown Prince cast a glance at Gu Jiu Ge. “Your son is quite interesting.” he remarked.
Once the Crown Prince had left, the Prime Minister wiped the sweat from his forehead, finally allowing himself to relax.
Gu Jiu Ge, who had been silently observing the exchange with an amused expression, set down her teacup and made to leave.
“Stop right there!”
“Is there something else, Prime Minister?” Gu Jiu Ge asked, turning back slightly.
“I heard you made all the servants kneel before you yesterday?”
Was this an interrogation? Gu Jiu Ge raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, I did.”
“How dare you!”
Ignoring the Prime Minister’s anger, Gu Jiu Ge casually sat back down, placed the fruit pit she had been holding onto the table, and picked up her teacup.
“Dare? I think you’re mistaken, Prime Minister. The ones who acted out of line weren’t me, but your servants.”
“I was merely introducing the Gu family’s staff to their master. If that’s considered daring, then I must ask—do the rules of this house permit the servants to disrespect their superiors?”
The Prime Minister was fuming, but Gu Jiu Ge’s pointed words only stoked his anger further.
“Gu Jiu Ge! Now that you’re in the Prime Minister’s Manor, you’d better rid yourself of those bad habits from the countryside!”
“Don’t worry, I won’t disgrace the Gu family name.” Gu Jiu Ge replied, maintaining her relaxed posture, which only served to further infuriate the Prime Minister.
“Gu Jiu Ge!”
“Prime Minister, I’m not deaf. You don’t have to shout.” she said, picking at her ear with a hint of irritation.
“Instead of wasting your breath on anger, why not tell me the real reason you summoned me? That way, I can prepare myself. Otherwise, if I really do something that tarnishes the Gu family’s reputation, it’ll be on your head, Prime Minister.”
Her flippant attitude left the Prime Minister at a loss for words, his carefully prepared speech stuck in his throat. The sensation of having to swallow his anger was truly unpleasant. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, the Prime Minister finally spoke.
“In three days, the sons of noble families will be entering the War King’s Manor for training. Prepare yourself well and make sure you build good relationships with the other sons. Don’t embarrass the Gu family, understood?”
“Prime Minister, if I remember correctly, the Gu family already has an official heir, doesn’t it? If you’re so worried about me bringing shame to the family, why not send your beloved son instead?”
“Don’t talk nonsense. The official heir of the Gu family is you, and you are the one who will attend the training at the War King’s Manor!”
Gu Jiu Ge realized then that there was definitely some kind of scheme afoot in the Gu family.
So, this was what they had planned for her. But what puzzled her was why, if the Gu family wanted her to attend the training at the War King’s Manor, they had also sent assassins after Gu Jiu Ge. If she hadn’t come across the real Gu Jiu Ge, the poor girl would have already been dead by now.
“If the Prime Minister wants me to go, I’m not entirely opposed. But on my way back to the capital, I was attacked by assassins. If you can get to the bottom of this and give me a satisfactory explanation, I’ll go to the War King’s Manor without any trouble.”
“I’ve heard about the incident. Do you have any idea who might be responsible?”
“I’ve heard rumors that my stepmother didn’t want me to return.” Gu Jiu Ge replied, answering the question with another question.
“You think it was her? Impossible.”
“Well, if you say so, Prime Minister.” After all, he would naturally want to protect her.
“Your return to the Gu family has indeed disrupted the interests of many.” the Prime Minister said, speaking once more.
