Young Miss from the Feng Family - FJXM Chapter 21
As he gazed at the woman in the painting, a faint smile tugged at the corners of the War King’s mouth. He wondered how Xiao Jiu had grown up. Did she still look the same as before?
“Wang Gonggong, what do you think? If one day I meet Xiao Jiu again, do you think I’ll recognize her at a glance? And do you think she’ll remember me?”
“Wangye and the young miss are destined. When the time comes, you’ll definitely recognize each other.” the old eunuch reassured him.
As Gu Jiu Ge prepared to leave for the War King’s Manor, the Prime Minister’s parting words were cold: “Gu Jiu Ge, when you get to the War King’s Manor, behave yourself. Don’t cause trouble, or the Prime Minister’s Manor won’t be able to protect you.”
Such a heartless man, Gu Jiu Ge mused.
On the carriage ride to the War King’s Manor, Gu Jiu Ge noticed that people from all directions were heading there as well. It seemed the War King’s influence was truly formidable.
When Gu Jiu Ge arrived, the training grounds of the War King’s Manor were already packed with people. The dense crowd, standing under the scorching sun, looked utterly miserable.
Gu Jiu Ge found a quiet spot and began observing the environment and the people around her.
The grounds appeared to be a training field of sorts. The oldest among the gathered young men couldn’t have been more than twenty years old. Most of them, pampered by their families, started grumbling after only a short time in the sun.
“It’s almost noon! Why hasn’t the War King shown up yet?”
Some of the noble scions were already losing patience.
“Exactly! The War King doesn’t respect us at all!”
“Right! We’re the heirs of noble families, and yet the War King makes us stand here like this?” The murmurs of discontent spread throughout the crowd, filled with complaints against the War King.
Leaning against a willow tree, Gu Jiu Ge watched the scene unfold with a smile. If they were already complaining on the first day, how would they survive the days to come?
Suddenly, a droplet landed on Gu Jiu Ge’s hand.
Rain? But it’s still sunny. That doesn’t make sense, she thought.
Curious, she looked up and was surprised to see someone lying on the branches above her, fast asleep. The droplet wasn’t rain—it was the person’s drool.
Ugh!
Gu Jiu Ge sighed at her own luck. Of all the places to stand, she had chosen one where something like this could happen.
But before she could move, another droplet fell—this time landing on her hand.
No, this was something she couldn’t tolerate.
Calmly taking out a handkerchief, she wiped her hand. With a flick of her wrist, a thin thread of silken steel shot out from her bracelet, snagging the sleeping person. A moment later, there was a loud thud as the person fell from the tree, landing flat on their back.
“Who? Who dares to sneak attack this young master?” The person—now sprawled out on the ground—clutched his sore back.
“Young Master, that’s Xiao Mingyu, the son of the Duke of Huguo.” Xiaowei whispered to Gu Jiu Ge, clarifying the identity of the person she had just unceremoniously pulled from the tree.
The entire scene didn’t go unnoticed by the people in a nearby room.
“Hmm, that one is quite interesting.” remarked one man, clearly intrigued by what he had seen.
“It seems not all of them are useless after all.”
The War King, who had been watching quietly, responded, “That’s Gu Jiu Ge from the Gu family.” He then stood up.
“Gu Jiu Ge? The Gu family? Could that be the son of Prime Minister Gu? Isn’t he supposed to be some country bumpkin?” This made the man even more interested, and he quickly followed the War King outside.
Back at the training grounds…
“Was it you?” Xiao Mingyu shouted, pointing at Gu Jiu Ge. His outburst quickly drew the attention of everyone around.
Soon, all eyes were on her.
“Are you deaf? I asked if you were the one who made me fall from the tree!” Xiao Mingyu demanded, his voice growing louder. Gu Jiu Ge merely raised an eyebrow at him.
“Xiao Gongzi, you might want to wipe the drool off your mouth before accusing anyone.” Gu Jiu Ge suggested calmly.
Xiao Mingyu quickly wiped his mouth, feeling a bit embarrassed when he found that there was indeed drool. He awkwardly scratched his head.
“Uh, so… Did my drool land on you?” he asked hesitantly.
