Young Miss from the Feng Family - FJXM Chapter 22
Feng Jiu Ge looked at Xiao MingYu, somewhat surprised that the boy could shift his attitude so quickly. Moments ago, he had been arrogant, but now he was almost apologetic.
“I’m really sorry about that. My father made me kneel as punishment all night, so I didn’t get any sleep. I must have been too tired. Did I get you dirty? Here, let me wipe it off for you!” As he spoke, he grabbed Feng Jiu Ge’s hand and began wiping it himself.
This guy was certainly straightforward.
Feng Jiu Ge pulled her hand back. “It’s fine.”
“Hehe, I’m Xiao MingYu from the Hu Guo General’s Manor. And you? Which family are you from? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”
At that moment, a group of armored soldiers entered the training grounds, and the entire area fell silent.
Leading them was the War King.
All the complaints and grumbling ceased instantly. The noble scions, who had been so vocal earlier, suddenly stood rigid, not daring to move as if they were mice in front of a cat.
“Greetings, Your Highness, War King!”
“Rise,” the War King said casually, his tone indifferent.
“From today onwards, you are all part of the War King’s Manor. Here, what I say goes!” His words made it clear that the moment they stepped into the War King’s Manor, their lives were no longer their own.
“What do you mean by that?” someone asked, confusion evident in their voice.
“It means that from now on, your life and death are in my hands,” the War King replied coolly.
“You will spend the next three months in this training ground. Those who pass all the tests will follow me into battle, earn titles, and rise in rank. But if you’re unfortunate enough to die here, your family will erase your name as if you never existed!” This was undoubtedly a gamble where the stakes were life or death, with no option for retreat.
The oppressive atmosphere of the training ground grew even heavier.
Most of these young men were the ones not favored by their families. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been sent to the War King.
The War King, Leng Tian Ao, was revered by the people of Tianqi, but he was also known for being cold and ruthless. In his hands, their fates were bleak at best.
“Your Highness, War King, forgive my bluntness, but did you seek our consent before bringing us here?” Many of those present had likely been deceived by their families into coming.
“I’m giving you a choice now,” Leng Tian Ao said, his voice unyielding. “Anyone who wishes to leave can do so. But if you don’t want to live a mediocre life, prepare to endure hardship and fight alongside me.”
Feng Jiu Ge locked eyes with Leng Tian Ao, their gazes meeting for a long moment. The crowd fell into a contemplative silence. Everyone wanted to make a name for themselves, but did they truly have what it took?
“Your Highness, War King, I, Xiao MingYu, am willing to follow you!”
“So am I!”
One by one, more and more young men voiced their willingness to stay, though a few chose to leave. However, Feng Jiu Ge knew that those who chose to leave wouldn’t actually make it out of the War King’s Manor alive.
“And you?” The War King’s gaze shifted to Feng Jiu Ge.
“Gu brother, you’re with me, right?” Xiao MingYu wrapped an arm around Feng Jiu Ge’s shoulders, his familiar manner making it clear where Feng Jiu Ge stood.
Without saying a word, Feng Jiu Ge’s lack of protest spoke volumes, subtly confirming her decision to stay.
Leng Tian Ao turned his gaze away. “Mu Qing, arrange accommodations for these people.”
“Jiu Ge, don’t be upset,” Xiao MingYu said as he began unpacking his belongings. “I heard from my father that this is a special opportunity the War King specifically requested from the Emperor. It’s meant to give people who have been overlooked by their families a chance to prove their worth!”
“Mm.” Feng Jiu Ge wasn’t upset, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to this. Why was the War King so openly training loyal followers, and why hadn’t the Emperor taken any action? Was it possible that the War King’s actions were actually sanctioned by the Emperor himself?
