Young Miss from the Feng Family - FJXM Chapter 31
“Where did Feng Jiu Ge go last night?”
“Jiu Ge? He was in the room sleeping all night.”
“Why? Did something happen?”
“I saw Jiu Ge before I went to sleep last night, but he was gone by morning. Your Highness, has something happened to Jiu Ge?”
“He’s fine. You can go back now.”
Even though Xiao Mingyu had been sharing a room with Feng Jiu Ge, he hadn’t noticed anything out of the ordinary. Could it be that what he saw last night was just his imagination?
This Jiu Ge is not that Jiu Ge.
At this moment, Feng Jiu Ge was standing outside the War King’s Mansion wall, rubbing her hands together.
With one burst of energy, she scaled the wall and jumped back inside.
“So, you still remember to come back?”
Feng Jiu Ge froze. “Your Highness, when did you get here?”
“Not too long ago. I was already here when you were still standing outside the wall.”
“Where were you all night?”
“I, well…”
“Don’t try to fool me.”
“Your Highness, we’re all men here. You understand,” Feng Jiu Ge said with a mysterious tone.
The way the War King looked at her made Feng Jiu Ge feel uneasy.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Although she had received information that Feng Jiu Ge had spent the entire night at Zui Xian Residence, the War King wasn’t one to be easily convinced.
“You, with your frail little body, should avoid places like that,” he said before walking away, but Feng Jiu Ge couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
This odd feeling lingered through the entire training session.
“Your Highness, could you please stand a bit further away from me?”
“What’s the matter? You don’t appreciate the fact that I’m personally instructing you?” The War King seemed to be deliberately standing as close to Feng Jiu Ge as possible, making her extremely uncomfortable.
“Your Highness, it’s enough if you just give verbal instructions. There’s no need to trouble yourself.”
“I’m worried you’re too stupid to learn properly,” the War King replied, making no move to release her from his grip.
“I’m actually really smart! Just let go, and I’ll figure it out right away.”
Seizing the opportunity, Feng Jiu Ge quickly stepped away, putting a safe five meters between them.
“You’re acting as shy as a girl,” the War King remarked with a rare smile. There was something about Feng Jiu Ge that felt familiar to him, but recalling the information he’d gathered, his expression turned cold again.
Feng Jiu Ge jumped in surprise. What was he smiling about? It was unsettling.
“Train by yourself. I’m leaving.”
Phew, finally!
What was with him today? Normally, during training, he would just give a couple of instructions at most. But today, it was almost like he was glued to her. Could he have noticed something? From now on, she’d have to be more careful. Just as she was mulling over this, Xiao Mingyu’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
“Jiu Ge, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Feng Jiu Ge sidestepped Xiao Mingyu as he lunged towards her.
“It’s good that you’re alright. Jiu Ge, you have no idea—I was taken for questioning by the War King before dawn today. Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving? I thought something bad had happened.”
“But now that I see you’re okay, I’m really relieved.” Xiao Mingyu rambled on, and seeing no end in sight, Feng Jiu Ge quickly interjected, “I’m hungry. Let’s go eat.”
“Oh, right! Let’s go eat.” Xiao Mingyu agreed, catching up immediately.
What’s going on? They hadn’t even reached the dining hall when they noticed a long line of people waiting.
“Jiu Ge, Jiu Ge, I heard they’re serving chicken legs today!” Xiao Mingyu reported, hopping with excitement.
“We’ve been here so long and it’s the first time there’s been meat!”
“Don’t get too excited. Look at that line! Who knows if there’ll be any chicken legs left by the time it’s our turn?” Feng Jiu Ge’s words doused Xiao Mingyu’s excitement like a cold shower, causing his face to scrunch up in dismay.
“You’re right. I need to think of something.”
“Jiu Ge, you stay in line. I’ll come up with a plan!”
“No need, just watch this.” Feng Jiu Ge suddenly shouted, “The War King is here!”
In an instant, everyone moved back, forming neat lines with bowed heads.
“Let’s go!” Feng Jiu Ge tugged the wide-eyed Xiao Mingyu forward, leading him straight to the front of the line.
“I’ll have two big chicken legs, please.” She said, pleased with herself as she held the prized meat.
From behind, she heard the respectful greeting of the crowd, “Greetings, War King!”
“These guys really get into it, don’t they? And the War King isn’t even here yet,” Xiao Mingyu muttered, chewing on his chicken leg and scornfully mocking the easily duped soldiers.
“Hey, Jiu Ge, why aren’t you eating?” Xiao Mingyu asked, noticing she hadn’t touched her food.
“I’m allergic to chicken, so you can have it,” Feng Jiu Ge said. Chicken made her break out in red bumps all over, a fact she had discovered the hard way after nearly dying from eating it once as a child.
“Wow, it’s really good! Are you sure you don’t want any?”
“I know it’s good!” Feng Jiu Ge sighed wistfully, adding with a mournful expression, “I’ve been allergic to chicken ever since I was a child. If I eat it, I break out in hives. I don’t want to ruin my looks.”
“You go ahead and eat it.”
“Don’t mind if I do!” Xiao Mingyu eagerly grabbed the chicken leg, devouring it with gusto. Whether intentionally or not, he made sure to chew loudly, clearly enjoying himself.
Feng Jiu Ge jabbed at her rice with her chopsticks. He’s definitely doing this on purpose to make me jealous.
Another chicken leg appeared in her bowl, followed by the sound of someone sitting down next to her.
“Jiu Ge, it’s rare to have meat today. Why aren’t you eating? Here, take mine,” said Mu Qing with a smile.
“Strategist Mu, you’re back!” Feng Jiu Ge beamed, genuinely happy. Finally, she could escape the War King’s clutches.
“Yes, I got back yesterday. How have you been these past few days?”
Just as she was about to vent her frustrations, a shadow fell over the table, and she looked up to see the War King towering over them.
Whatever Feng Jiu Ge was going to say, she swallowed back down. “Your Highness, you’re here to eat too?”
“Enjoying the local cuisine?”
“This is my mansion. Why wouldn’t I be here?” The War King sat beside Feng Jiu Ge, his expression dark. Moments ago, he had caught sight of Feng Jiu Ge smiling happily at Mu Qing, and for reasons he couldn’t understand, it left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Another chicken leg was placed in Feng Jiu Ge’s bowl.
She looked up in surprise, and even Mu Qing was taken aback. When had the War King ever served anyone food? What was going on today?
“You seem to like chicken. Take mine too.” His tone was one of condescending charity.
Feng Jiu Ge’s eye twitched. If it had been anything else, she would have been delighted, but now, with this thing she couldn’t even eat, she felt more tortured than anything.
“Uh, Jiu Ge is allergic to chicken,” Xiao Mingyu mumbled through a mouthful of food. “I’ll eat it for her!” He reached over and took the chicken leg from Feng Jiu Ge’s bowl.
