Young Miss from the Feng Family - FJXM Chapter 32
Xiao Mingyu’s words made the War King pause in thought.
“You do have an unusual allergy.”
The War King’s eyes flickered briefly before he fell silent, saying nothing more.
In the War King’s study.
“Bao, you’ve been staring at me for almost an hour. You’re not falling for me, are you?” Mu Qing shrank back slightly, feeling a bit anxious.
“Is there nothing you’d like to tell me?”
“No, not really.”
Mu Qing started to feel nervous under the War King’s scrutinizing gaze. Suddenly, he remembered something and said, “Oh, right! I’ve already investigated those officials in Jinzhou, and there are no problems with them.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“Then what else is there?”
“Mu Qing, you’ve always been strict with the soldiers.”
“You’ve said before that if training is too easy, soldiers will die quickly on the battlefield.”
“That’s why you’re tough on everyone during training.”
“But now…”
“Why are you being so lenient with Feng Jiu Ge?” The War King finished, his gaze piercing.
“Well, he’s… physically weak,” Mu Qing’s heart skipped a beat. He swallowed nervously under the War King’s stare. The War King must have found out something.
Lowering his head like a child caught in a lie, he admitted, “Your Highness, I suppose you already know?”
“So, you’ve known all along?”
“Mu Qing, you’re my strategist.”
“Of course, I knew Feng Jiu Ge was a woman from the start. But I figured this wouldn’t affect you much, so I kept it to myself.”
“So, Feng Jiu Ge really is a woman.”
Once the War King confirmed it, Mu Qing clamped his mouth shut. He realized he had been tricked into confessing.
“You’re dismissed. I’m aware that Feng Jiu Ge is a woman now. Keep this information to yourself.”
“Yes!” Mu Qing couldn’t gauge the War King’s exact mood, but he was relieved that the War King didn’t order Feng Jiu Ge to leave the mansion.
Who else in the world would be allergic to chicken legs other than Xiao Jiu? But if Feng Jiu Ge really is Xiao Jiu, then was the person from that night also Xiao Jiu?
Does Xiao Jiu still remember him? She was so young when he left. People say that children forget things easily; maybe Xiao Jiu has already forgotten that he was once part of her life.
The War King’s thoughts were in turmoil. He had always trusted his eyes. He was sure that the person in the hot spring was Feng Jiu Ge, no matter how her face had seemed different afterward. He was certain there was more to it.
“Your Highness, isn’t Mu Qing back already?”
“Hmm.”
“Mu Qing has other matters to attend to. From now on, I will personally oversee all your training.”
“Oh.” Feng Jiu Ge felt that something was off with the War King today.
As he watched Feng Jiu Ge train from a distance, the War King spoke to the shadowy figure of Night Shadow nearby, “Night Shadow, have you found any information on that woman from the other night?”
“Your Highness, we’ve tracked her down.”
You found her?
The War King frowned. Had he really been mistaken?
“Yes, that woman is the hidden owner of the largest restaurant in the capital—Lady Feng’er.”
“I want to meet this woman!”
Upon seeing her, the War King’s first impression was that she was formidable—a strong woman, indeed.
But it made sense. For someone to own the largest restaurant in the capital, they would need to be tough. His gaze fell on the veil she wore.
“Why does Lady Feng’er hide her face?”
“Everyone has their secrets, Your Highness. Do you intend to pry into everyone’s business?” Her voice was very similar to the one he heard that night, but… His eyes narrowed as they lingered on the veil.
“I’m merely curious. A woman as capable as you—what do you look like?”
“There are more than a few men curious about my appearance.”
“I don’t mind letting you see, but there’s a rule in my family: any man who sees my face must be mine.”
“If Your Highness is willing to be with me forever, I wouldn’t mind showing you my face.”
“Lady Feng’er, you must be joking. A woman like you wouldn’t give herself away so easily.”
The War King’s tone was light, but the underlying meaning was far from it, leaving one with a sense of unease.
“Your Highness doesn’t believe me?”
The War King’s lips curled into a faint smile, but he didn’t respond.
The War King didn’t stay long.
“Your Highness, should we have someone remove Lady Feng’er’s veil?”
“No need.”
“She wasn’t the person from that night.” The War King was certain.
He remembered the scent she had—a unique fragrance, a mix of milk and medicinal herbs.
“Your Highness, the War King isn’t easy to deceive. I think you should leave the mansion soon,” Feng’er said to Feng Jiu Ge, who was sitting before her.
“Right now, I’m a man. No matter what, the War King wouldn’t suspect that the woman he’s searching for is actually a man right under his nose. I just need to play my role well.”
Back at the War King’s Mansion.
“Xiao Wei, I want to take a bath,” Feng Jiu Ge said, lying on her bed, feeling utterly miserable. Since coming here, her bathing frequency had significantly decreased.
It was just too inconvenient to live here.
“Young Master, Young Master, I have good news!” Xiao Wei rushed in, excited.
“Young Master, the steward just informed me that they’re giving you your own private courtyard. It’s already prepared, and we can move in now.”
This news was indeed surprising.
“Who gave the order?” This was too good to be true.
“I don’t know. The steward just said it was from higher up.”
Feng Jiu Ge hadn’t had much time to be happy before she was left speechless. Looking at the largest courtyard in the War King’s Mansion, she turned to the steward and asked, “Are you sure His Highness said I should live here?”
“Yes, I may be old, but my hearing is still sharp.”
“The War King’s intention is to keep you under his watchful eye, so you don’t slack off!”
Feng Jiu Ge’s lips twitched. That explanation was hard to believe. What exactly was the War King planning?
She looked around at her new surroundings.
This place seemed pretty nice. If the War King wanted her to stay here, she certainly wouldn’t refuse.
“Xiao Wei, help me pack up. Tell the small kitchen to prepare some hot water!” She finally had her own private courtyard; no more sneaking around to take a bath.
Watching her confidently give orders in the War King’s exclusive small kitchen, the steward couldn’t understand why His Highness was giving this young master from the Gu family such special treatment.
