You're so sweet (GL) - Chapter 13
Su Jingwan did not keep the suspense for too long, and soon let Qin Luo know what it meant to not be just the two of them.
A waiter brought a laptop over and placed it next to Su Jingwan. Su Jingwan operated the keyboard for a while, and the waiter did something on the side too, and then the entire computer screen was projected onto the screen next to them.
Immediately after a flash, Old Madam Qin’s face appeared.
“…” If Qin Luo had been drinking water at this moment, she might have choked. What the heck, they were having a video call. Why was it like this?
Qin Luo looked at Su Jingwan in confusion, but Su Jingwan didn’t look at her, instead signaling the waiter to help move the computer to the side so that the camera on the computer could capture both of them.
“A-Luo, it’s not easy to see you.” Old Madam Qin on the screen was drinking tea, her expression a half-smile, looking like she was here to hold Qin Luo accountable.
Why did she want to see me? Qin Luo tried hard to control her expression, feeling a little annoyed and also bewildered. Su Jingwan in front of her, however, was calm and unhurried, even greeting Old Madam Qin, completely unaware of the change in Qin Luo’s emotions.
Even though she was grumbling inwardly, Qin Luo did not forget to put on an act in front of Old Madam Qin. She smiled,
“If you want to see me, just ask the butler to call me. No need for all this trouble.”
Although she didn’t want to see Old Madam Qin, she also didn’t want such a scene while eating. Hearing Old Madam Qin speak in such a sarcastic tone, how could she eat afterward?
“Of course, I know you are thoughtful, but Jingwan said you just joined the company and need to adapt, so I didn’t want you to rush back and forth, lest you get too tired and blame this old woman. How are you adapting?”
“What are you saying? How could a junior like me blame an elder? The work is naturally very good. Miss Su takes great care of me, and I feel like I can learn a lot at her company.” Qin Luo changed the subject, with an implied meaning, “I believe it won’t be long before I can achieve something and help my elder brother at the company.”
Old Madam Qin’s eyes slightly chilled. Looking at Qin Luo’s face on the other end of the screen, which was full of gentle and innocent smiles, she only took it as Qin Luo genuinely saying these words without any other intentions. So she suppressed her impatience and showed a smile,
“No need to rush, learn slowly. Jingwan has two degrees. You can learn more from her than you think. Learn a little more, and it won’t be too late to go to the company to help your elder brother afterward.”
Su Jingwan actually had two degrees! Qin Luo was surprised for a second, then suppressed the surprise. She finally understood. Old Madam Qin clearly didn’t sincerely want her to enter the Qin family company. All the previous arrangements were fake.
Is doing these things just for kicks? Isn’t it better to go shopping and max out a few credit cards when there’s nothing else to do? Or perhaps donate to a few Hope Primary Schools to do charity, which could also accumulate virtue for herself.
Furthermore, given what she said, since Su Jingwan was so capable, why not just let her join the Qin family company? Why insist on letting her come here to learn? Did the old woman think cultivating a talent was that easy?
Of course, Qin Luo knew that a person like Old Madam Qin was always petty, and judging by her character, it was impossible for her to genuinely let Su Jingwan join the Qin family company.
No matter how much she rolled her eyes internally, Qin Luo maintained a proper smile on her face, “Okay, okay, I won’t embarrass the Qin family. Don’t worry, Old Madam.”
Old Madam Qin showed no clear sign of satisfaction or dissatisfaction. She just uttered an ‘mm’ and then changed the topic. More often than talking to Qin Luo, Old Madam Qin was speaking to Su Jingwan. Su Jingwan didn’t say much, only responding occasionally and giving simple replies.
As for Qin Luo, she didn’t want to talk to Old Madam Qin at all, finding it too exhausting. She simply listened to them on the side, thinking that Su Jingwan was truly capable of bending over backward to marry into the Qin family. Old Madam Qin’s words, both overt and implied, were all urging her to quickly close her company and go back to have children for Qin Ziyuan, yet Su Jingwan didn’t utter a single word of contradiction, nor did her expression change.
Could Su Jingwan have true love for Qin Ziyuan?
Qin Luo felt a little unhappy and lowered her head to take a sip of lemon water. If Qin Ziyuan also liked Su Jingwan, then the two, a talented man and a beautiful woman, were indeed a perfect match.
However, what Qin Ziyuan did that day at the bar didn’t make him seem like a man worthy of lifelong commitment. Cheating once would lead to a second time. If he couldn’t control himself before marriage, could she still hope that Qin Ziyuan would restrain himself after marriage?
Qin Luo now really wanted to ask Su Jingwan how much she could humble herself for the sake of so-called love, and if she really had to commit to just one person.
But she had no standing, and she was afraid Su Jingwan would answer yes.
Old Madam Qin finally got tired of talking and gave Qin Luo a few more words of warning before ending the video call.
“Hey, President Su, aren’t you going to explain?” Qin Luo began to demand an explanation. What was this? Bringing her here just to have a video call with Old Madam Qin. Was it because she was too bored, or was it to report back to Old Madam Qin?
Even if she had to have a video call, what did it have to do with eating? What would it hurt to inform her in advance? She had never seen such a rushed situation. Did they really think she wouldn’t get angry?
Qin Luo’s gaze fell on Su Jingwan’s face, and she really couldn’t get angry. She even secretly found an excuse for Su Jingwan: perhaps Su Jingwan was afraid that if she told her directly, she would refuse.
But even so, she shouldn’t disregard her feelings like this.
Su Jingwan finally spoke, but asked, “No surprise?”
“Not at all.” What was so surprising about this? Qin Luo almost wanted to ask Su Jingwan if she didn’t know that she was dispensable in the Qin family. Old Madam Qin clearly wasn’t sincere about wanting to see her; otherwise, she would have directly asked the Qin family butler to call her long ago.
“Old Madam Qin called me temporarily, saying she wanted to meet with us.” Su Jingwan handed the ordering tablet to Qin Luo, “Due to work reasons, I handled it this way. The specific arrangements were sent to your number via text message this morning. Since you didn’t reply, I took it as your tacit agreement. Look at the menu, is there anything you want to add or remove?”
Qin Luo was slightly surprised, by Su Jingwan’s good attitude, and also by the content of Su Jingwan’s words. She couldn’t spare a glance at the tablet and quickly took out her phone. Only then did she remember that because she was constantly harassed by Su Jingxun, she had been deleting the received text messages all at once, and it seemed she had accidentally deleted Su Jingwan’s text message too.
“Why didn’t you call me directly?” Qin Luo asked. She wasn’t surprised that Su Jingwan knew her number. She had registered some personal information when she joined the company last night. As the boss, it was simple for Su Jingwan to view employee data.
“You hung up this morning,” Su Jingwan said lightly. Because the call couldn’t go through, she sent a text message.
“…” Qin Luo. It was all Su Jingxun’s fault for making her block all unknown numbers indiscriminately. Qin Luo quickly explained, “I’m usually too lazy to answer unknown calls, so I set up blocking. I really didn’t mean to ignore President Su’s call. President Su, how about we exchange mobile numbers?”
“Okay.” Su Jingwan looked up at her and softly recited her private number.
After saving the number, Qin Luo felt a slight trance. A month ago, she was trying to find out about Su Jingwan, wanting to get to know her and be friends with her. Now she finally had this person’s number and was even sitting in front of her eating with her, but the nature had changed over and over again, completely different from what she wanted.
She often heard people talk about “fate,” but she had never believed it. But suddenly, she seemed to understand what it meant to be “fated but not meant to be.” Before Su Jingwan and Qin Ziyuan clarified their relationship, many of her thoughts couldn’t even be spoken.
Some people might think she was being overly sentimental, but that’s how she felt. Even if she didn’t think well of Su Jingwan and Qin Ziyuan, she didn’t want to destroy or intervene in someone else’s relationship, even under the guise of doing it for their own good.
“Then President Su can call me anytime from now on.” Qin Luo smiled at Su Jingwan, thinking that Su Jingwan probably wouldn’t contact her except for matters related to the Qin family.
She naturally wouldn’t contact Su Jingwan either. Since she knew she couldn’t have this person, it was best not to get too close, or she would be the one who felt uncomfortable.
“Mm, is that so? Not just polite talk, right?” Su Jingwan asked back.
Qin Luo coughed, “How could that be, President Su?”
How could it not be, when even the title was so polite? Su Jingwan smiled, “That’s good.”
Just as Qin Luo was about to ask what was good, the waiter brought in the dishes.
“If you don’t like the dishes, you can order more.”
“I’m not a picky eater.” Qin Luo said this because she saw that the dishes served were all good and happened to be what she liked to eat.
The two started eating. Qin Luo found that the dishes not only looked delicious but also tasted very good, even better than the private kitchen she ordered from last time.
“This is delicious.” She paused after speaking. Seeing Su Jingwan stop her chopsticks and look up at her, she regretted it a little. She had gotten a bit carried away while eating and treated Su Jingwan like Xu Shaotian, even wanting to share her eating experience.
But Su Jingwan didn’t seem like the type of person who would like this kind of sharing. Perhaps she would even think that Qin Luo had no manners. Thinking about it, it was true. She had been “free-range” in Luocheng since she was a child, which was equivalent to being “parentless” to some extent. She truly lacked such things as manners.
Just as Qin Luo was about to say something to cover the awkwardness, she heard Su Jingwan say,
“Mm, I think so too. You can try this one as well; the taste is also good.” Su Jingwan pointed to the Osmanthus-flavored lotus root slices next to them.
“Really?” Qin Luo picked up a piece. It was indeed sweet but not greasy, and it had the fragrance of osmanthus. It was very delicious. “Mm, it’s really delicious.”
Qin Luo liked sweets. When she ate something sweet, her whole mood would lift. She naturally wouldn’t think that Su Jingwan knew her preference. Su Jingwan had just said that these were the dishes she usually ordered, which meant Su Jingwan liked to eat these things too.
Sigh, so they were quite compatible after all. Same gender, and similar tastes in food.
Su Jingwan saw her cheeks puffed up like a little hamster while eating, a flash of a smile crossed her eyes, and she also picked up a piece to eat.
After the two finished their meal, the waiter came up again, cleared the table, and replaced it with a set of tea wares that matched the screen’s pattern, preparing to wash the teacups and brew tea for them on the side.
“Their tea is also good.”
“Then I must try it.” Qin Luo said. So Su Jingwan also liked to drink tea.
But she was in such a hurry to leave earlier, saying she had a meeting. Why did she still have the leisure to stay and drink tea now?
