You're so sweet (GL) - Chapter 14
After lunch, they truly went to a hotel to attend a meeting. Saying it was a meeting, it wasn’t particularly formal; it was mostly a gathering of several company heads, and the topics of discussion were broad. The most substantial part was probably about the investment cooperation projects and other arrangements each company would undertake in the second half of the year.
In addition to that, the hotel also set up a simple networking venue in another large hall, featuring desserts and some products from the participating companies for sampling and viewing. JC Media had several advertising videos and images playing on the screens.
It must be said that Su Jingwan’s company was indeed very capable. The videos varied in length, with clever composition, featuring both well-known celebrities and ordinary people as protagonists. The genres ranged from humorous to profound, but all left people wanting more after watching.
This was how Qin Luo felt. Unfortunately, only a few were shown. She decided to search for more when she got back tonight.
The companies attending today varied in size, and Su Jingwan handled them all with ease. Sometimes, Qin Luo truly felt that Su Jingwan was amazing. She looked like a cold, otherworldly fairy, but as long as she was willing, she could strike up a conversation with anyone and chime in on any topic.
In other words, Su Jingwan was very good at socializing. Even if she didn’t talk much, every word was meaningful and made everyone she talked to feel comfortable.
Qin Luo also just realized that Su Jingwan might not just have two degrees to her name; she might know a lot more than she thought.
Qin Luo was different; she didn’t understand much, nor was she interested. Fortunately, she had brought a voice recorder, so she wasn’t completely helpless.
Moreover, she couldn’t stand some people’s frequent suggestive glances and ambiguous ways of speaking. While she wouldn’t go as far as showing obvious displeasure, when certain remarks crossed her line, she would act like a mute and not respond at all.
She was certainly not mute; who would hire a mute as a secretary? So, those people quickly realized that Qin Luo was doing it deliberately.
But Qin Luo was, after all, more stunning than an average beauty. Those people simply regarded it as her exercising the ‘haughty’ privilege that a beautiful woman should possess. They didn’t think she was impolite; instead, they thought she was very individualistic and special.
Qin Luo was actually slightly worried that her cold treatment of those people would bring some trouble to Su Jingwan, but later, Su Jingwan noticed her and didn’t say anything about it, clearly unconcerned with how Qin Luo treated those people.
If anyone flirted with Qin Luo in front of Su Jingwan, Su Jingwan would even step in to help Qin Luo out of the situation.
Su Jingwan was also a beauty, and even if the beauty was taken, it didn’t stop people from being lenient towards her. Not to mention her proper attitude, it was only the seemingly ignorant secretary beside her who was being cold to people.
Qin Luo didn’t understand which side Su Jingwan was on, or rather, she couldn’t figure out if Su Jingwan disliked her or not. If she disliked her, why not just let her make a fool of herself? Why bother helping her? But if she didn’t dislike her, Qin Luo felt that she was probably just imagining things.
Today, after finishing the meal and drinking tea, she and Su Jingwan returned to their state of mutual silence, sitting in the same car without saying a word from the moment they got in until they got out.
Normally, encountering such a good opportunity, Qin Luo wouldn’t mind taking the initiative to start a conversation, but she happened to be feeling a bit unwell this afternoon, which made her unmotivated.
Another reason was the earlier encounters, which made her realize that flirting with Su Jingwan would only bring temporary pleasure. This pleasure was like scratching an itch through a boot—no matter how many times she did it, it was useless. It only treated the symptom, not the root cause, and would only lead to more trouble.
Since she didn’t take the initiative, Su Jingwan naturally wouldn’t say anything either. Looking at it this way, Su Jingwan didn’t have any special fondness for her, which, in Qin Luo’s view, was no different from dislike.
Su Jingwan was talking and laughing with others, and Qin Luo watched her every move from the side, thinking that this person was even more deceptive than herself. She wondered which of her words were true and which were false.
Seeing those men’s eyes almost glued to Su Jingwan, Qin Luo felt a bit annoyed again. Finally, one of them even reached out to pull Su Jingwan’s hand. Qin Luo couldn’t stand it anymore and quickly stepped forward to block Su Jingwan.
“CEO Su, there’s something at the company that needs your attention,” Qin Luo said loudly.
Su Jingwan looked up and glanced at her. The people whose conversation was interrupted by Qin Luo were slightly displeased. Due to courtesy, they couldn’t openly show their irritation; instead, they said to Su Jingwan,
“CEO Su is extremely busy; we will excuse ourselves now.”
It’s about time you old geezers left. You’re already so old and still acting like a rogue, how disgusting, Qin Luo thought angrily to herself.
After the people left, Su Jingwan didn’t spare Qin Luo a single glance. She turned around and walked towards the exhibition area to look at the product displays. Qin Luo couldn’t help but follow her. “Why aren’t you asking me what the company needs you for?”
Su Jingwan finally gave her a look, smiling faintly, “Miss Qin, if you joined the entertainment industry, I’m afraid you would be heavily criticized.”
Qin Luo’s face froze. This person was clearly saying that her acting just now was very fake.
“Just now, just now I…” Qin Luo still wanted to argue, but when she met Su Jingwan’s gaze, which seemed to see through everything, she couldn’t say anything. Who was she doing it for? If she hadn’t stepped up just now, Su Jingwan would have been taken advantage of by that old scoundrel!
But there were many eyes and ears around, so Qin Luo didn’t genuinely defend herself. She just felt that Su Jingwan didn’t know good intentions and was a bit angry. She mumbled softly, “That person was staring at you like that, and you still don’t mind. Consider me meddling, sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong.”
Su Jingwan: “What do you want to say?”
“I want to say that CEO Su, you are truly smart; nothing can be hidden from you.” Qin Luo could only force a dry laugh, laughing at her own lack of backbone, as she couldn’t say a single harsh word facing Su Jingwan’s face.
“Find some time to take a class.” After Su Jingwan finished speaking, she saw someone else approaching her to greet her, so she stepped past Qin Luo and started chatting with the other person.
Qin Luo was baffled, wondering what class to take. Su Jingwan’s words were always hard to fathom. Apart from this small interlude, everything else was normal.
After the exhibition ended, Qin Luo received quite a few business cards.
She was rather speechless, unsure whether these were meant for Su Jingwan or for her, because she had also been hit on several times, and the business cards had all been piled together, making it impossible to distinguish them. But whether they were for her or Su Jingwan, it was nothing to be happy about.
She went to the restroom, intending to throw them all into the trash can, but at the last minute, she held back near the bin. Thinking carefully, receiving business cards didn’t necessarily mean they were for private contact. Su Jingwan attending this exhibition on behalf of JC Media was for company cooperation, and perhaps there were many potential clients among them.
No matter what, opportunities for cooperation shouldn’t be missed; Qin Luo knew this much. In the end, Qin Luo tucked all the business cards into her notebook, intending to take them back to the company and ask Lisa how to handle them.
She turned and left the restroom, counting the business cards under her breath, while trying to recall who gave them. Just then, someone suddenly handed a perfume-scented business card in front of her. Qin Luo was slightly stunned, and she looked up in surprise, seeing a woman with short, neutral-styled hair looking at her with a smiling face.
“I thought about it for a long time, and finally decided to come over. Maybe we can be friends.” This woman named Huo Yue was very delicate-looking, and her slightly curly short hair gave her an elegant demeanor. “Hello, my name is Huo Yue.”
This person was not one of the attendees of the exhibition; she must have just been passing by.
Qin Luo slightly raised an eyebrow and reached out to take her business card. “Hello, my name is Qin Luo.”
This person was the type of woman Qin Luo always admired—beautiful, polite, proactive, and measured.
By her own count, it had been several months since she had gone out to party. Furthermore, even if she did go out, she wouldn’t necessarily meet someone to her liking. Qin Luo was always one not to deny herself, and making friends was definitely a case of the more, the better.
Moreover, after months of desiring Su Jingwan, she could only look. If she kept looking, she was afraid she’d have an endocrine disorder, so it was better to find some fun for herself to keep life from being boring.
She didn’t have a business card, so she simply made a call in front of Huo Yue. Huo Yue saved her number, and her smile became brighter. She was about to speak but then saw Qin Luo’s gaze pass over her and fall behind her, with an expression that wasn’t quite right.
“What’s wrong, Miss Qin?”
Qin Luo had seen Su Jingwan. She was shaking hands and saying goodbye to a few people, but Qin Luo saw one of the men holding her hand for a long time, clearly taking advantage of the opportunity. Qin Luo was furious. Damn it, I haven’t even touched Su Jingwan’s hand, those bastards.
“What’s wrong, Miss Qin?” Huo Yue asked doubtfully. Before she could turn around to look, she heard Qin Luo say anxiously,
“Excuse me, I have something to take care of. Let’s keep in touch.”
Qin Luo ran over in a rush, but in the last few steps, she switched to a polite smile, walked over, and extended her hand to the man. “Pleased to meet you, CEO Li.”
This man had called his secretary to give her his business card earlier, and Qin Luo had been disgusted by his gaze for quite a while, so she had some impression of him.
The man was somewhat flattered and let go of Su Jingwan’s hand, turning sideways to shake Qin Luo’s hand. But at that moment, Qin Luo’s phone suddenly thudded onto the ground, along with several business cards, startling everyone.
Qin Luo also let out an ‘oops’ and quickly squatted down to pick up her things. With this delay, the handshake naturally couldn’t happen.
Su Jingwan’s eyes slightly flickered. She said to CEO Li, “New people are always clumsy. I apologize for the unprofessional behavior, CEO Li.”
“Oh, it’s alright. I actually find it quite interesting.” CEO Li laughed and exchanged a few more polite words with Su Jingwan before leaving.
Interesting my ass, Qin Luo muttered with a pout while lowering her head. Just then, the last business card on the floor was picked up by a pair of fair, slender hands. Qin Luo looked up, meeting the eyes of Su Jingwan, who was looking down at her, and her heart skipped a beat.
“Pinyue Biotechnology Company, Huo Yue.”
“Huh? What biotech… Oh, that one.”
It took Qin Luo a few seconds to realize whose business card it was. She immediately stood up to grab the business card, but because she stood up too quickly, her feet lost balance, and her body fell backward. The next second, an arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her directly into an embrace with a woody scent.
“What’s the rush? Just take your time and talk,” Su Jingwan whispered softly.
