You're so sweet (GL) - Chapter 15
Su Jingwan’s voice was practically in Qin Luo’s ear, making Qin Luo’s body go weak, almost sliding straight to the floor. But she quickly reacted, immediately trying to pull out of Su Jingwan’s embrace. Unexpectedly, just then, her high heel twisted, and she heavily tumbled back, jarring Su Jingwan backward a few steps.
“Sorry, I just lost my footing, I didn’t mean to fall,” Qin Luo quickly looked up to explain, but with the action of “throwing herself into someone’s arms” just now, it all seemed a bit like trying to hide something obvious.
Su Jingwan used both hands to steady her before letting go.
Qin Luo’s gaze froze, and she lowered her eyes, too embarrassed to look at Su Jingwan.
The warmth of Su Jingwan’s palm seemed to linger around her waist. Su Jingwan’s body temperature was a bit high, or perhaps it was just that Qin Luo had been in the air-conditioned venue for too long, and the silk shirt was cool, creating such a noticeable difference.
Just now, Su Jingwan hugged her… This realization made Qin Luo’s breathing unsteady, and a blush crept onto her face. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say. It was clearly just an accident. Qin Luo secretly persuaded herself not to overthink it; the other person was just kindly helping her up.
“Mm, just stand steady.” There seemed to be a hint of teasing in Su Jingwan’s eyes. Her gaze fell on Qin Luo’s reddened earlobe, pausing slightly for a few seconds before she withdrew it.
Upon hearing her response, Qin Luo’s heart clenched. Could Su Jingwan think she did it on purpose?
Su Jingwan did not say anything else but turned to say goodbye to the others.
It had been a long time since Qin Luo had handled a situation so awkwardly. Logically, she should have made a joke or teased a little, which would have been better than that dull apology. An apology, my foot!
It was understandable for Su Jingwan to misunderstand. After all, Qin Luo’s first impression on Su Jingwan was already terrible, and she had just stumbled twice for no reason. It was normal for Su Jingwan to think that way.
Qin Luo even felt that the people still beside her were looking at her strangely.
She felt that she shouldn’t get too close to Su Jingwan. Such a slight touch already made her heart feel overloaded. How could she handle it if this continued? Coupled with the current situation, she really didn’t want any more involvement with Su Jingwan.
However, this didn’t mean she could let others take advantage of Su Jingwan. How could she stand by and do nothing when she saw something like that? Even if it were other girls, she would step in to stop it.
The words of explanation were on the tip of her tongue, but Qin Luo hesitated for a moment, thus missing the best opportunity to speak. Su Jingwan did it for work; such things might not matter to her. And what right did she, merely a subordinate, have to interfere? Not only was she acting on her own, but she also almost caused Su Jingwan to be embarrassed too, which was truly unjustifiable.
The more Qin Luo thought about it, the more depressed she became, and she didn’t even remember the business card that had ‘triggered the incident.’
By the time she calmed down a bit and remembered it later, she no longer wanted to mention it to Su Jingwan. She wished Su Jingwan would forget everything and not take it to heart.
Not long after, they got into the car to return. If Lisa had been there today, she would have driven, but since Qin Luo was present today, Su Jingwan had arranged a driver to shuttle them.
This time, Qin Luo didn’t dare to be presumptuous and went straight to the passenger seat. After getting in, she seemed to catch Su Jingwan raising her eyes in the back seat. Qin Luo quickly turned back, “President Su, is something wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Oh.” Qin Luo turned her head back and didn’t speak again. Her body had been feeling uncomfortable in the afternoon, and now her waist ached; she felt uneasy all over. She opened her phone memo, calculated the time, and realized it was almost time for her period.
It’s truly miserable to be a girl, Qin Luo thought gloomily. The thought of having to work while on her period made her even more down. But she was reluctant to take time off. She had just learned how to quickly organize documents from a colleague today, and there were today’s meeting minutes. How could she not properly prepare the things she recorded for Su Jingwan to see?
As the car slowly drove, Su Jingwan in the back seat suddenly asked, “Where do you live?”
“Huh?” Qin Luo was slightly startled, looked up at the rearview mirror, and met Su Jingwan’s eyes in the back seat.
Why was she asking for her address? What did Su Jingwan mean? Why did she want to know her address?
“I’ll send you home first. Tell the driver the address,” Su Jingwan continued.
It turned out she wanted to send her back. Qin Luo was a little flattered, not expecting such treatment. She was about to agree, but suddenly remembered her car was still in the company garage and quickly said, “No need, I drove to work today.”
Primarily, Xu Shaotian had been frantically texting, saying her tablet was in the car. She had probably accidentally forgotten to take it out a few days ago. If Qin Luo didn’t drive back, she wouldn’t be able to give it to Tian Tian today.
Moreover, she had already decided to keep her distance from Su Jingwan, so what would it mean to let the other person drive her home? Su Jingwan’s reaction just now was already annoying enough for her. Asking now was probably just out of courtesy, so why should she trouble the other person? Qin Luo thought listlessly.
The driver beside her glanced at Qin Luo, his look seemingly saying that young people nowadays are remarkable, driving themselves to and from work.
Su Jingwan said no more and instructed the driver to return to the company.
Upon arriving at the entrance of the building, Qin Luo said goodbye to Su Jingwan and got out of the car. Taking the elevator upstairs, she decided it would be better to drop the business cards and voice recorder in the company first, lest she forget to bring them tomorrow in a rush, which would be troublesome.
The company had reached closing time, but shift work and overtime are common in the media industry, so there were still colleagues in the office.
Just as Qin Luo reached the company entrance and before she could enter, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen. She quickly ran to the restroom, and the result was as she expected: her period had arrived.
Damn it, why now of all times? She knew she should have taken Su Jingwan’s car home just now. It would be better than being inexplicably trapped at the company like this.
Qin Luo sat on the toilet, her lower abdomen starting to cramp in waves. Her menstrual cycle was always irregular, and even though she noted it in her memo every month, she occasionally encountered such sudden situations.
She gloomily opened her purse only to find that the sanitary napkin she always carried was missing. Qin Luo’s expression was like she had been struck by lightning. After rummaging for a long time, she realized it wasn’t that she hadn’t packed one, but that Xu Shaotian had been drunkenly rummaging through her bag during their last outing and taken the spare sanitary napkin out to play with.
This rotten girl, whose specialty was screwing her over! Qin Luo opened her phone and sent a voice message to Xu Shaotian, asking her to come to the rescue. On the other hand, she attempted to save herself, planning to call a delivery runner online to buy things. While searching, she also wondered, even if they bought it, would the delivery guy help her bring it into the restroom?
Forget it, she’d just place the order first.
Qin Luo clutched her stomach. She was wearing a white bodycon skirt today, and bad luck struck as a little red stain appeared. She absolutely did not want to parade around in this thing. Furthermore, her stomach was hurting more and more. She was afraid she might faint in the hallway before she could get downstairs.
Xu Shaotian was out God knows where, not replying to WeChat messages. Qin Luo called her several times, but no one answered.
“Xu Shaotian, come save me!”
The voice message was sent, falling like a stone into the sea. Qin Luo started to feel cold all over. This wasn’t working. She didn’t see many people in the office just now. She didn’t know if she could wait for a female colleague to come in to use the restroom at this hour.
Should she look for someone else? Qin Luo’s lower abdomen hurt increasingly, and she started sweating cold. She felt she couldn’t pin her hopes on the unreliable Xu Shaotian.
She opened her phone and her fingers scrolled across the screen, almost powerlessly, until her fingertip stopped on the three characters ‘蘇鏡绾’ (Su Jingwan).
Should she call? But Su Jingwan had already taken the car home just now and was probably home by now. Calling her suddenly at this time, she didn’t know if it would disturb her. Moreover, what was her relationship with Su Jingwan? Calling her rashly, especially for something like this, just felt strange.
Qin Luo lowered her gaze and sighed.
She had quite a few numbers in her contact list, and it wasn’t impossible to call someone, but she never liked to have ties with people she wasn’t close to. She preferred a clean slate (money for goods) over owing favors.
Hmm, with a little extra money, the delivery guy might consider delivering to the women’s restroom door. Should she also buy some painkillers? Oh right, and clothes… The skirt was stained and couldn’t be worn. And, she might need a wheelchair or something; she might not be able to walk. It hurt too much.
Why was this rotten girl Xu Shaotian nowhere to be found at such a critical moment? Was she starting her nightlife already? If so, there was no chance of finding her before dawn.
Qin Luo’s thoughts were scattered due to the pain, her mind wandering wildly. Perhaps she could still salvage the situation. Just as she was about to continue bombing Xu Shaotian’s phone, a sound came from her phone.
“Hello, speak.”
Qin Luo was startled, quickly lifted her phone to look, and the phone was actually in a call, with the three characters ‘蘇鏡绾’ (Su Jingwan) displayed at the top of the screen.
“Qin Luo?”
“Where are you?”
“I…” Should she tell her that her period started and she was trapped in the restroom? That would be too idiotic. Qin Luo regained her senses, frantically pressed the end call button, and then sent a text message saying she had dialed the wrong number.
Right after the text message was sent, Su Jingwan’s call came in. Qin Luo initially didn’t want to answer, but Su Jingwan called several times, acting like she wouldn’t give up until Qin Luo answered. Finally, Qin Luo endured the pain, cleared her throat, pretended to be normal, and answered the call.
“Hello, President Su, I really dialed the wrong number. I’m already home, hello, can you hear me?”
She struggled to explain. These words sounded like an excuse. How could it be so easy to dial the wrong number on a phone these days? It must have made Su Jingwan misunderstand again, even though she genuinely had misdialed.
“Mm, I hear you.”
Two voices appeared simultaneously, one coming from the phone receiver, and the other seemingly from outside the restroom door. Qin Luo’s heart sank. Before she could doubt if it was an illusion, her restroom door was knocked a few times from the outside.
“Can you open the door yourself? Or do I need to find someone to pry the lock?”
Qin Luo was stunned: “…”
