You're so sweet (GL) - Chapter 17
On the way to the hospital, Qin Luo fell asleep.
Before she fell asleep, she was struggling to figure out what Su Jingwan meant by saying she came back to bum a ride. Those words were really strange and she couldn’t understand them.
Qin Luo believed that Su Jingwan came back to work. This person was a workaholic, a fact she knew despite only having been at the company for a short time. So, it was normal for her to come back late at night after work.
But coming back to bum a ride, and asking her for one? Qin Luo didn’t quite believe it. She felt that this must be an excuse Su Jingwan was using, and as for the real reason… Qin Luo suspected it might be the Qin family asking Su Jingwan to look after her or something.
Initially, Su Jingwan offered to drive her home in the car, which Qin Luo already found very odd. Why would Su Jingwan offer to drive her home for no reason?
But if you add the premise that the Qin family asked Su Jingwan to look after her, then it makes perfect sense. Su Jingwan came back partly for work and partly to complete the ‘task’ assigned by the Qin family, so she had no choice but to find her.
As luck would have it, she was in the restroom, and they just ran into each other.
Thinking about it this way, this situation really made Qin Luo a little unhappy. She originally wanted to say something more, but suddenly lost her interest and fell silent.
After arriving at the parking lot, she found her car keys and gave them to Su Jingwan, then sat in the passenger seat herself. Perhaps the heating in the car was turned up a bit high, because Qin Luo fell asleep soon after.
She didn’t sleep for very long, as sleeping in the car is not very comfortable. When she woke up, the car was still driving and hadn’t reached the hospital yet.
Qin Luo pulled her coat tighter and secretly glanced at Su Jingwan, who was driving.
Su Jingwan was concentrating on driving. Her shirt had slipped down slightly, exposing a small section of her fair, delicate wrist. Qin Luo suddenly noticed a tiny red mole on Su Jingwan’s left wrist. It swayed slightly with her movement of turning the steering wheel, making Qin Luo dizzy for a few seconds.
“Does your stomach still hurt?” Su Jingwan suddenly asked.
“No, it doesn’t,” Qin Luo replied. She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt Su Jingwan’s voice was a little gentle. It must be a misconception, haha. Su Jingwan had always been very indifferent when talking to her. Maybe she was just being nicer because Qin Luo was a patient.
Qin Luo felt her lower abdomen. It really didn’t hurt anymore. The earlier agony in the restroom felt like a dream. She got cramps almost every month during her period, sometimes lasting all day, but lucky like now.
Aunt Xu said it was because she had a weak constitution. If others heard this, they might find it funny. The Qin family was so wealthy, and Qin Luo had no shortage of food and clothing, so how could she have a weak constitution?
Qin Luo used to dismiss it, but now she had a general idea. After her mother passed away, her cheap dad made her stay in Luocheng. The nanny he hired didn’t dare to bully her, nor did she dare to discipline her.
So, as a child, she ate whatever she wanted, mostly snacks instead of proper meals. It was true that she was full, but it was also true that it was almost as if she hadn’t eaten anything nutritious. This situation only improved when she met Xu Shaotian and often went to her house to eat.
But by that time, her periods were already painful. She even bought a lot of painkillers to take. When Aunt Xu found out, she gave her a good scolding and dragged her and Xu Shaotian to the hospital for a full body checkup.
Thinking of the hospital, Qin Luo pursed her lips and said, “Um, maybe we don’t need to go to the hospital after all.”
Su Jingwan spared a glance at her, seemingly asking for a reason.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore, and it’s late at night, no need to waste the doctor’s time,” Qin Luo quickly said. She didn’t like going to the hospital. If she was really uncomfortable, that would be one thing, but now she was fine, so there was really no need.
After she spoke, Su Jingwan didn’t respond. Qin Luo was about to say more when her stomach rumbled.
There was no music playing in the car at the moment, so the sudden sound was exceptionally abrupt. Qin Luo herself was stunned.
Su Jingwan chuckled softly, “Are you hungry?”
The implication seemed to be asking if she didn’t want to go to the hospital because she was hungry and wanted to eat.
“No… not really.” Qin Luo also didn’t expect her stomach to suddenly rumble out loud. How embarrassing. “Don’t talk nonsense, I don’t want to go to any restaurant to eat right now.”
She felt uncomfortable all over now. She had just broken out in a cold sweat and probably smelled bad. She definitely didn’t want to run around. It was fine to be hungry for one night. At worst, she would order takeout when she got back, but by then, she would probably be asleep.
In any case, there was no way she would go to a restaurant to eat in this outfit.
Qin Luo glanced at Su Jingwan, realizing belatedly that Su Jingwan probably hadn’t eaten either. After all, they had been together almost all day, and the short time they were apart afterward wasn’t enough for Su Jingwan to have a meal.
Qin Luo couldn’t help but feel a little guilty and quickly said, “Well, you can go eat. I’ll wait for you in the car.”
“Mm, you wait then.” Su Jingwan was not modest, and she got out of the car after speaking.
Qin Luo was stunned for a few seconds and almost jumped up, quickly knocking on the car door and shouting, “I was just joking, okay? Shouldn’t a normal person say, ‘It’s alright, hey, I’ll send you home first!'”
She just realized that Su Jingwan had already driven the car to a temporary parking spot without her knowing.
Su Jingwan waved her hand with her back to Qin Luo and walked away without looking back.
She was truly going to faint from anger. How could Su Jingwan be so inconsiderate of the fairer s3x? Was she even a girl? Qin Luo finally understood. She had been deceived by Su Jingwan’s appearance. The real Su Jingwan was not only not a fairy but also a complete jerk, not cute or gentle at all.
Qin Luo hugged her coat and angrily hit it a few times. When she got rid of her bad habit of being a face-con, she would definitely show Su Jingwan a lesson.
She had been asleep the whole way, so she couldn’t fall asleep again for a while. Qin Luo had no choice but to take out her phone to scroll through her Moments. As she scrolled, she suddenly had a flash of inspiration. She copied Su Jingwan’s phone number from her contacts and added her as a friend. Sure enough, a number popped up. The profile picture was a tree, and the WeChat name was the abbreviation of Su Jingwan’s name.
Tsk, truly not cute at all.
Qin Luo clicked to add her as a friend, though she was still nervous, unsure if Su Jingwan would accept.
No reaction. Oh, maybe she was having dinner right now and didn’t have time to bother with her. Qin Luo touched her stomach. It hurt for a while, and now she was hungry again. She absolutely had to eat something good to replenish her energy, or she would feel like she was missing out.
Qin Luo fumbled in her bag for her potato chips, tore open the bag, and ate a piece. After a few bites, she felt that it wasn’t as satisfying as eating chips usually was.
“Why doesn’t it taste very good? Is it expired?” she said gloomily, turning on her phone’s flashlight to look for the date on the package.
Just as she found it and before she could see clearly, the large bag of chips in her hand was suddenly snatched away.
Qin Luo was startled, seeing Su Jingwan bending down, examining her chips, and then leaning in, rolling up the chips and putting them aside.
“Su… Why are you back? What are you doing with my chips? Give them back.”
“These don’t taste good.”
“True.” Qin Luo felt the same way and subconsciously agreed. Then she felt speechless, “Didn’t you go to eat something else? Why are you back so soon?”
Although the chips didn’t taste good, they were the only thing she could eat right now.
“It’s too late,” Su Jingwan said lightly as she sat down.
“Oh.” Qin Luo felt that Su Jingwan would eventually piss her off. Couldn’t she say something nice, like she was afraid Qin Luo would wait too long here, or just humor her? The rumors were truly not exaggerated. Su Jingwan was really dull and uninteresting, probably a very inconsiderate person to date.
“So I chose to get takeout.”
“…You got takeout?” Qin Luo was stunned again. Why did this person like to pause so much when speaking? Only then did she notice that Su Jingwan was indeed holding something in her left hand. She quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and leaned forward to look. “What did you get?”
“Nothing much, just some congee and dim sum,” Su Jingwan said lightly.
Qin Luo caught a glimpse of a familiar tea house name on the bag, and instantly, many dim sum items like lobster dumplings and taro puffs flashed through her mind. Her mouth was watering.
What “just a little bit”? There was clearly a lot! She should have gone with Su Jingwan, or asked Su Jingwan to get a portion for her if she knew Su Jingwan was getting this. Qin Luo was too embarrassed to ask Su Jingwan for some, so she deliberately asked, “Why don’t you bring it in? Aren’t you going to close the car door?”
“I don’t know where to put it,” Su Jingwan replied.
Where in this car couldn’t she put it? Qin Luo was about to refute, but then thought about it. It was true, she also bought congee, so if it spilled, it wouldn’t be good. “Then I’ll hold it for you.”
“Thank you then.”
“Why are you being so polite to me, haha.” Qin Luo pursed her lips as she took the packaged food. She was even hungrier now. She realized that she couldn’t bring herself to ask Su Jingwan for a bite to eat. If it were anyone else, she would have already started eating. But facing Su Jingwan’s gaze, she chickened out, feeling inexplicably awkward.
Su Jingwan closed the car door and started the car. After pulling out of the temporary parking lot, she suddenly said, “By the way, I’ll give you half, as compensation for borrowing your car later.”
Qin Luo was slightly surprised. Su Jingwan would indeed need to drive her car back later, but although it was called bumming a ride, Su Jingwan was driving her back, so logically, Qin Luo owed her a bigger favor. Qin Luo said with slight embarrassment, “You really don’t have to be so polite.”
“I should.”
What “should”? There was no “should” or “should not.” Maybe she didn’t want any further involvement with her and wanted to keep things clear… Qin Luo scoffed, immediately pushing away the thought in her mind, and smiled, “Alright then, the dim sum from this place isn’t cheap. I’m actually the one making a profit.”
Qin Luo lowered her head and unwrapped a box. Inside were two steaming char siu bao (pork buns). Just the aroma made her mouth water.
“I’ll eat one and leave one for you.” Qin Luo said, taking a bite, and was instantly moved to tears by the deliciousness.
What kind of divine food was this? It was simply amazing. So delicious!
Su Jingwan took advantage of the red light to glance at Qin Luo in the mirror, and the corner of her lips involuntarily curved into a slight arc, which quickly disappeared.
