You're so sweet (GL) - Chapter 4
Su Jingwan wore a white dress today. Her tall height, combined with a pair of high heels, made her figure slender and well-proportioned. Coupled with her deep-set and alluring eyes, she resembled a revered and admired Western goddess of wisdom.
Qin Luo secretly gritted her teeth. She was wrong; such a gem could not be easily forgotten or replaced. Qin Ziyuan must have a screw loose to mess around.
“Jingwan, why didn’t you come with A-Yuan?” Old Lady Qin asked.
“He had something urgent at the company, so I came first,” Su Jingwan’s voice was soft, and her tone was calm, which made people comfortable listening to it.
Qin Luo couldn’t help but recall their conversation in the bar that time; her tone then seemed much colder. Indeed, she had misjudged; Su Jingwan was probably not interested in her from the start.
The thought was quite depressing.
“A-Luo, why haven’t you said hello? Didn’t you meet last time? Did you forget?” Old Lady Qin looked at Qin Luo, slightly displeased that she was spacing out at this moment.
Qin Luo had indeed been distracted for a while. They weren’t familiar with each other, so what was there to talk about? Besides, would the Old Lady dare to listen to the things she wanted to talk about with Su Jingwan!
Qin Luo forced a smile and glanced at Su Jingwan, who was drinking tea, “Of course I remember. I was just hesitating about what to call you. I don’t know whether to call you Sister Su or Sister-in-law?”
Su Jingwan’s action of drinking tea paused.
Old Lady Qin next to them was also displeased, “Why so many questions? You are peers, so naturally, you should address each other as peers. Jingwan probably has too many things to deal with recently; if she became your sister-in-law on top of that, wouldn’t she be too busy?”
“It’s just minor matters; Old Lady, please don’t worry,” Su Jingwan said.
“Since you know they are minor matters, save some energy. The Qin family wouldn’t mistreat you, would they?” Old Lady Qin placed her teacup heavily on the table.
Su Jingwan also put down her teacup, picked up the teapot, and poured some more tea for the Old Lady, “Wouldn’t you be happy if I earned something myself to buy you some nice things?”
“There you go again. You just rely on my affection for you. But I’m stating this here; you should think about it carefully,” Old Lady Qin scoffed.
Qin Luo, who was being treated as invisible, understood the situation from their back-and-forth. It seemed Old Lady Qin was quite satisfied with Su Jingwan as her granddaughter-in-law but disapproved of Su Jingwan going out to work, hoping she would marry into the Qin family and become a full-time housewife instead.
A picture of Su Jingwan holding a child flashed in Qin Luo’s mind, and she shivered. Beauties were meant to be cherished, okay? This Old Lady was truly a feudal conservative.
However, Su Jingwan was willing to flatter Old Lady Qin like this, suggesting she might also have the intention of marrying into the Qin family. Qin Luo felt an indescribable feeling. Although a pen can’t write two different “Qin” characters, her “Qin” was indeed different from Qin Ziyuan’s “Qin.” Su Jingwan being cold towards her made sense.
It seemed Su Jingwan wasn’t just uninterested in her as a person; she probably found her completely unacceptable in every way.
“Qin Luo, do you know how to address her now?”
“Then I’ll call her Miss Su,” Qin Luo smiled slightly, but in reality, she was mocking herself for having a hole in her brain. Why did she have to speak up to test the waters just now? Maybe Su Jingwan even thought she was deliberately mocking her.
Qin Luo genuinely wasn’t being sarcastic; it was just that seeing Su Jingwan again inevitably stirred emotions in her heart. She privately hoped that Su Jingwan had nothing to do with Qin Ziyuan, but now it seemed… well, it didn’t matter. Qin Luo lowered her gaze to conceal her feelings.
“Mm, Miss Qin,” Su Jingwan responded.
Old Lady Qin frowned, not expecting Qin Luo to call her so distantly. She was about to speak when she heard the butler announce Qin Ziyuan’s arrival.
“Grandma, what are you chatting about in the flower room? Everyone outside has arrived,” Qin Ziyuan looked like he had just come from the company, wearing a formal suit that made his aura bigger and his demeanor more serious.
However, Qin Luo had already seen him aggressively dragging someone in the bar, so she wouldn’t be intimidated by him.
Qin Ziyuan walked in, exchanged a smile with Su Jingwan, and then greeted Qin Luo, “Qin Luo, long time no see.”
Not long, she had just seen him a few days ago.
Qin Luo chuckled dryly. She wasn’t familiar with this group of people, and now that Qin Ziyuan was here, she felt even more uncomfortable and wished she could leave immediately. She even thought that if she could leave now, she wouldn’t come back to J-City this year, no matter what.
But Old Lady Qin didn’t intend to let her go yet. She said to Qin Ziyuan, “A-Yuan, you came at the right time. Qin Luo is considered your sister. She hasn’t been back for so many years and isn’t familiar with our Qin family’s businesses. Why don’t you two siblings have a good chat now? If Qin Luo wants to join the company, she can bring it up, and you, as her elder brother, can arrange it for her.”
“Me?” Qin Luo didn’t understand why she would join the Qin family company.
“You’ll be a member of the Qin family in the future. Don’t you want to take a look inside the company?” Old Lady Qin’s face was benevolent, but her words gave Qin Luo the goosebumps.
What did the Old Lady mean by saying such a thing? She wanted her to join the Qin family’s company? Didn’t she always refuse to acknowledge her status because she was afraid she would covet the Qin family’s assets? She had clearly been sending her far away all these years, so what was this act now?
She glanced at Qin Ziyuan out of the corner of her eye. Qin Ziyuan frowned, but it was fleeting, and he quickly regained his composure.
“But I haven’t worked at all since I graduated,” Qin Luo deliberately put on a surprised expression. It was the absolute truth. Since graduation, she had invested in bars and other ventures with Xu Shaotian, spending her days either traveling or looking for places to paint. The money in her card was already enough for her, so she naturally didn’t need to consider working.
She didn’t need to prove anything to anyone, nor did she care about the Qin family’s assets. She had always been unattached and didn’t need that much external wealth.
Qin Ziyuan asked from the side, “I remember you graduated from Luo City University. What was your major?”
“Oh, a professor friend of Dad’s really appreciated me and gave me a spot as an art student. Later, I studied painting at Luo University. Does Big Brother’s company lack painters?”
Qin Luo’s implication was that even her schooling was arranged by the Qin family, and she wouldn’t mind if Qin Ziyuan wanted to arrange for her to join the company.
But internally, she was rolling her eyes furiously. What nonsense. Who cares what her major is? It would be great if he quickly disliked her. She definitely didn’t want to go there to be an eyesore and make herself uncomfortable.
She naturally knew a bit about the Qin family’s companies. Besides Qin Ziyuan, there were a lot of relatives inside, like aunts, cousins, and second cousins. If she really went in, wouldn’t she be running into them everywhere? Would she still have a peaceful life then?
Old Lady Qin heard Qin Luo’s words. Although slightly unhappy, she didn’t comment on her son’s decision when he was alive, but she also clearly disapproved of it. She said, “Even if your major isn’t relevant, you can at least be your brother’s secretary, right?”
“Secretary?” Qin Ziyuan looked at his so-called lavishly dressed sister. Why would he need a beautiful vase? And she was his sister; should he take her to social engagements? Moreover, being a secretary wasn’t that easy. Qin Luo had no experience at all, so how could she start so easily?
Qin Luo was even more surprised and quickly raised her tone, “Secretary? Doesn’t that mean work like serving tea and water and making phone calls? How much money is that a month? Is it enough for me to buy a handbag?”
She didn’t care that speaking this way would damage her image. In fact, she wished her impression on them would be even worse. Lazy and unambitious would be best.
Old Lady Qin saw her ignorant appearance, and a hint of displeasure flashed in her eyes, “If you are willing, it’s not impossible for your brother to privately give you a little extra.”
What did she mean by whether she was willing? These words sounded increasingly strange.
Qin Ziyuan wanted to speak but was glared at by Old Lady Qin. The Old Lady sneered and looked at Qin Luo, “What, by evading like this, do you not want to work at all or do you look down on such a small position?”
These words were quite malicious, sounding as if she suspected Qin Luo of having greater ambitions. Qin Luo immediately realized that this line of questioning was merely a test from the Old Lady. She seemed intent on eliminating certain future troubles.
But it was too ridiculous. She hadn’t stayed in the Qin family for over ten years; she was powerless, without influence, and her status was awkward. Even if she did have some ideas, could she just open and close her mouth and seize power and property? The Old Lady must have watched too many palace dramas all these years!
“Old Lady, those words…” Qin Luo chuckled. She really wanted to say that she genuinely wasn’t interested and wasn’t afraid of tearing off the pretense. However, before she could finish, she was interrupted.
“Why not let Miss Qin come to my company?” The speaker was Su Jingwan, who had been silent for half the time.
Qin Luo was stunned. She hadn’t expected Su Jingwan to speak up at this moment.
Su Jingwan didn’t look at her but continued, “Minor matters are exactly suitable for Miss Qin to gain experience.”
“Yes, Jingwan makes sense. Why not find an open position at her company first? Learning by her side can also make Qin Luo’s resume look better in the future. Then, if she wants to return to our own company, it will be easier to arrange,” Qin Ziyuan agreed.
Old Lady Qin pondered and looked at Qin Luo, “Are you willing? Or do you have other ideas?”
“Of course…” Willing my ass. Couldn’t she just be a slacker? Qin Luo looked at Su Jingwan and smiled, “What other ideas could I possibly have? I’m absolutely looking forward to learning from Sister Su.”
With the conversation reaching this point, Old Lady Qin was finally satisfied and had the butler arrange for the gathering to begin.
Qin Luo’s initial expectation of being introduced to these relatives and friends didn’t happen. The result was that she came here for half a day just to ‘beg’ for a job?
Qin Luo pinched her own face in the restroom, feeling her brain was a bit insufficient. Before she could put her hand down, someone suddenly walked in.
It was Su Jingwan. She glanced at Qin Luo in front of the mirror, a faint light flickering in her eyes. She didn’t speak but slowly walked over and stopped in front of the sink next to Qin Luo.
“Su Jingwan!”
Qin Luo quickly put her hand down and watched her bend slightly to wash her hands, every gesture extremely elegant.
“Miss Qin, is something the matter?” Su Jingwan finished washing her hands and pulled out a tissue.
Damn, so cold again. She wasn’t like this towards others just now.
Qin Luo felt frustrated but wasn’t afraid of her coldness. Instead, she moved closer with a fake smile, smelling the cedar scent on Su Jingwan. Her heart fluttered slightly, and she spoke with a teasing tone, “I just wanted to ask, what position does Miss Su plan to give me?”
Su Jingwan stepped back, “Serving tea and water and making phone calls.”
“Ah?” Qin Luo almost didn’t react. When she did, she was confused. Was Su Jingwan joking with her? But the person’s expression hadn’t changed at all.
Su Jingwan took a business card from her bag and placed it on the sink, “Start work tomorrow. Please be on time.”
“…” DAMN IT!!
