You're so sweet (GL) - Chapter 5
Su Jingwan turned and walked away. Qin Luo gritted her teeth behind her, then remembered she hadn’t washed her hands yet, so she returned to the sink. After washing her hands, she picked up the business card.
—JC Media Company.
A media company? That’s strange. Qin Luo remembered the Su family made their fortune from porcelain, and later invested in many industries besides various porcelain products. Unfortunately, the Su family had some trouble a few years ago; their capital chain was reportedly broken, and they barely managed to recover. Although their status wasn’t as stable as before, they were still incomparable to an ordinary family business.
So why wasn’t Su Jingwan helping out at her family’s company? Why did she start a new one? Qin Luo quickly chased out, only catching a glimpse of Su Jingwan’s figure in the distance among the crowd.
She stood next to Qin Ziyuan. The two exchanged a few quiet words, then walked together to Old Madam Qin to bid farewell, and left together.
Qin Luo couldn’t help but tighten her grip on the business card, then sighed a moment later. This Su Jingwan was truly slippery. Unintentional teasing was the hardest to resist. What did she mean? Was she actively showing goodwill?
That couldn’t be right. She was just a bastard daughter, not Qin Ziyuan’s biological sister. Even if Su Jingwan were to marry into the Qin family later, she wouldn’t need to build a good relationship with her.
The thought that Su Jingwan might have intentions of marrying into the Qin family made Qin Luo feel annoyed again.
But Su Jingwan had indeed helped her. Qin Luo clearly understood that if Su Jingwan hadn’t spoken up just now, it would have been difficult for her to pass that test, even by playing the fool.
Old Madam Qin’s attitude was strange, as were the others’. After she emerged from the conservatory, the way those people looked at her became even weirder, making Qin Luo almost wonder if flowers were carved on her face.
There were even two, seemingly her nominal aunts, who commented that she looked different from before, and more beautiful the more they looked. Heaven knows she had never met these people before.
In such an unclear situation, if she really went to the Qin family’s company, she would probably be put through the wringer. But going to Su Jingwan’s company was different. Aside from keeping her far from those Qin family people, if she went to JC, Su Jingwan should treat her politely out of consideration for her last name ‘Qin.’ Even if the position was secretary, she would likely be given lighter tasks. What’s wrong with serving tea and water for a beauty? She could even flirt occasionally.
Before figuring out Old Madam Qin’s purpose, and before finding a way to truly get rid of the Qin family, this had become the best option.
With this thought, Qin Luo slowly curved her lips. To be able to see a beauty up close and ease the Qin family’s mind—why not?
As a thank you, Qin Luo decided to wear a green dress to Su Jingwan’s company tomorrow as a bit of fun.
The next day, three or four alarm clocks blared in the apartment. Xu Shaotian, nursing a hangover, banged wildly on Qin Luo’s door with dark circles under her eyes. “Qin Luoluo, what are you doing? Are you summoning my soul? Turn off all those alarms now!”
“I know, I’m up,” Qin Luo laboriously crawled out of bed to turn off the alarms. She rubbed her eyes, feeling too lethargic to speak.
It had been too long since she woke up this early, and last night she was too excited to sleep. It was all Su Jingwan’s fault—why did she smell so good? Even the business card carried a scent, causing her to dream about her.
Fortunately, she had the foresight to set several alarms last night, or she would truly be in trouble. She didn’t want to leave the impression of being late on her first day.
Qin Luo originally intended to wear a green body-con skirt, but after getting ready, she couldn’t find it no matter where she looked. Puzzled, she went to the adjacent guest room to ask Xu Shaotian, “Sweetie, where’s my green dress? The one we bought while shopping the day before yesterday?”
Xu Shaotian had been excited when they saw it while shopping that day, insisting she buy it so she could show it to Su Jingwan later. Who knew the opportunity would come so quickly?
“Hmm, is it on the sofa?” Xu Shaotian was half-asleep under the covers. “I think I wore it out yesterday and just tossed it there.”
“What? You wore it?”
The two of them often mixed and matched each other’s clothes. Qin Luo quickly ran out to check, then returned exasperatedly, “It’s all wrinkled! Forget it, I’ll just take a matcha green silk scarf. Remember to wake up and eat. I won’t be back for lunch; I’m going to work.”
“Oh, oh, bye.” Xu Shaotian continued to sprawl, then snapped back to attention as if she’d hallucinated, “Work? What work?”
It wasn’t surprising that Xu Shaotian was clueless. She had been playing hard last night and hadn’t checked Qin Luo’s messages much. She had also returned past midnight and immediately went to sleep in the guest room, so the two hadn’t had a chance to properly talk.
Qin Luo arrived at JC Media Company just on time. The company was neither as small nor as exceptionally large as she had imagined; she heard Su Jingwan started it herself.
Today, Qin Luo wore a somewhat professional-style blouse and skirt, with a matcha green silk scarf tied around her fair, slender neck, enhancing her fair and smooth skin. It was no exaggeration to call her a delicate flower.
She walked directly to the JC reception desk. The staff member asked who she was looking for and if she had an appointment.
“I don’t have an appointment. I’m here for Su Jingwan. I’m here to…” Qin Luo stammered slightly, pursing her lips as she debated whether to say she was here for an interview or to work. She also wasn’t sure if Su Jingwan had mentioned her; would it be better to give her name first?
Qin Luo had actually graduated three or four years ago, but when she relaxed her expression, she looked especially young, like a beautiful, innocent university student.
Su Jingwan, who was heading to a meeting room, happened to catch sight of this scene, her eyes pausing slightly.
“Qin Luo.”
Hearing her name, Qin Luo turned around and nearly gasped when she saw Su Jingwan in a white shirt. Generally, tall people don’t look bad in a white shirt, let alone Su Jingwan, who had an austere yet incredibly captivating face.
Today, she was dressed neutrally in a shirt, trousers, and leather shoes, her hair tied back. Her whole demeanor was clean, sharp, and carried an unapproachable distance, hitting Qin Luo’s aesthetic sensibilities even harder than the Su Jingwan from yesterday.
Qin Luo froze in place, thinking belatedly, If I regret this now and run away, will there be consequences?
She had a premonition: if she lingered around Su Jingwan, she might be unable to stop herself from doing things that weren’t entirely proper, even if against her better judgment.
But it was too late to escape. Su Jingwan instructed her assistant a few words, then looked up, her gaze falling on Qin Luo. “Come with me.”
“Oh, okay.” Qin Luo composed her expression and followed Su Jingwan on her high heels.
Qin Luo secretly eyed Su Jingwan’s back. Her waist was genuinely thin, and her legs were straight and long. She must have been wearing a vest under her shirt, but the outlines faintly pressed against her skin in the arm area, the color revealed was both alarming and evocative.
They entered the office. Before Qin Luo could even stand still, Su Jingwan suddenly turned and walked toward her, her breath falling almost to Qin Luo’s ear for an instant. Caught staring, Qin Luo didn’t dare move. She thought Su Jingwan was going to do something, but Su Jingwan merely reached past Qin Luo’s shoulder and closed the door behind her.
Su Jingwan stepped back after closing the door, but Qin Luo’s heart rate spiked, struggling to calm down. Damn, does this person spray her perfume with stimulants?
She also wondered if Su Jingwan was actually over 180 cm (5’11”) tall. Qin Luo herself was 165 cm (5’5″) and was wearing 12 cm (4.7 in) heels today, yet Su Jingwan still looked down at her.
And, Su Jingwan clearly knew she was a lesbian, yet she stood so close! This person must be doing it on purpose, Qin Luo thought, grinding her teeth.
“Did you bring a resume?” Su Jingwan was already sitting at her desk. She asked Qin Luo, her tone still calm and even.
This doesn’t sound like flirting…
Qin Luo was suspicious, but her expression had returned to a calm state, even putting on a smile. “Didn’t I already pass the interview? Does a secretary-vase whose job is to serve tea, pour water, and answer the phone need a resume?”
Su Jingwan leaned slightly against her chair: “You are quite accurate in your self-assessment.”
By saying this, she tacitly agreed with Qin Luo’s statement.
Qin Luo smiled, revealing her dimples. She walked closer, placing her hands on the desk and leaning slightly forward. “It’s not just my self-assessment, President. Just look, and you’ll understand. I have everything a vase should have, all laid out clearly.”
Qin Luo was quite proud of her looks. It was always her turn to tease others, and Su Jingwan was too inexperienced compared to her.
Qin Luo waited to see Su Jingwan blush and look away, but Su Jingwan’s gaze remained steady, falling instead on the silk scarf around her neck. “The overall color scheme is good. The scarf is the highlight. It seems your professional knowledge is passable.”
Qin Luo was slightly stunned, not expecting Su Jingwan to suddenly change the topic. Strictly speaking, clothing matching and painting did share some common ground, as learning to paint also required color matching and learning to combine colors. But she didn’t understand why Su Jingwan brought this up suddenly. Was it just because she knew her major was painting?
“What highlight? I just saw a model in a magazine wearing it nicely, so I bought the whole set. The main thing is that it looks good on me,” Qin Luo stood up straight, stating ambiguously. Then she winked at Su Jingwan. “If you like it, how about I give you this scarf?”
That way you can put it on your hat; adding a little green is always good.
“No need.” Su Jingwan pushed several files towards Qin Luo on the desktop. “Your desk is in the first cubicle outside. There’s a phone there that can transfer internal calls. Your job description is in the first file, and the others contain some basic work schedules for the week.”
Qin Luo was stunned again. Wait, wasn’t I here to have some fun? What are all these files?
Su Jingwan seemed to read her mind and continued, “Take them out. I’ll give you half an hour. After you’ve finished reading, someone will give you the finished meeting minutes. Organize them and bring them back to me.”
Qin Luo: “…” Damn.
Qin Luo walked out with a pile of files. Sitting at the desk, she opened the first file and saw that there were dozens of messy tasks listed on a single page.
So, this Su Jingwan wasn’t helping her out at all; she seized the opportunity to retaliate against her, didn’t she?!
