Zombie Siege: The Road to Survival Begins at School - Chapter 38
“Are those zombie teeth?” Zhang Wei looked stunned.
But he knew that zombie teeth were one of the deadliest weapons—same with their nails and claws.
Anyone scratched or bitten by a zombie had nearly a 100% chance of infection and death.
Seeing the girl still wearing gloves on her right hand, Zhang Wei figured she was trying to avoid getting infected. That pretty much confirmed it—those were definitely zombie teeth.
“Miss Pei, right? Lady Pei, let’s talk this out. Let go of my buddy—he’s not all there in the head. If you’ve got a problem, take it out on me. Go with me.”
Zhang Wei broke into awkward, broken English.
Hearing Zhang Wei call someone “Miss,” Zhao Zhenxiong and Lu Renjia inside the room finally couldn’t take it anymore and stepped out.
“Give me back my cat!” Pei Wu shouted angrily, pressing the zombie teeth against Zhou An’s neck.
Zhou An didn’t dare move a muscle.
Touching zombie teeth was fine as long as they didn’t break the skin—but the woman behind him clearly wasn’t thinking straight.
“Hey girl, don’t do anything crazy. Sure, you’re not wearing anything under that coat, but we didn’t see a thing—honest!” Zhao Zhenxiong tried to calm the situation.
But his brainless words were like adding fuel to the fire.
Pei Wu looked even angrier.
“Don’t be rash! If something’s up, take it out on me!” Lu Renjia stepped forward, trying to rescue the hostage.
“Wait, don’t forget—that’s a zombie tooth!” Zhang Wei had to remind him.
“Then go for Zhou An instead!” Lu Renjia immediately turned around and backed off.
Just then, Hu Die opened her door and stepped out too.
“What’s going on here?” she asked, confused. Why was Pei Wu holding onto Zhou An? Was she trying to kidnap him?
She had no idea that the three guys had almost seen Pei Wu naked just moments ago.
Pei Wu was also surprised to see a girl coming out of Room 316—and she looked familiar.
She had searched every room on the third floor, checking through the clear glass windows to see if anyone was inside.
“Give me the cat!” Pei Wu shouted again in English.
But she spoke too fast, and the three guys were totally lost.
“She wants her cat back,” Hu Die quickly translated.
Though she wasn’t top of the class, Hu Die had always ranked among the top few in her class.
“Cat? You mean that white one?” Zhang Wei finally remembered the white cat from the upstairs dorm.
“Yes.”
“Can you speak Chinese? Why are you pretending to be a foreigner?”
“Sh1t!”
“Boss, she called you poop.”
“I know. I don’t need a translation.”
So this girl was worried about that cat. Zhang Wei saw a chance and said, “Let him go, or we’ll kill the cat.”
“You let go of the cat first, then I’ll let him go!”
“Your zombie teeth might not kill anyone, but we can definitely kill your cat. What do you think? Wanna take that gamble?”
“No, no, no, boss, don’t gamble!” Zhou An was on the verge of tears. “That’s a zombie’s tooth! Did you forget how Lin Feng and Zhang Cheng died?”
Nothing was scarier than the unknown. The bloody zombie tooth was pressed right up against his neck.
Zhou An sneaked a glance—it was yellow, caked with tartar, tinged with dark red gums and dried black bl00d.
A wave of rot and decay hit him in the face. He nearly threw up right there.
“I’m not gambling!” To everyone’s surprise, Pei Wu let go of Zhou An and put the tooth away, holding it in her hand.
“Did you guys eat my cat?” she asked, heartbroken.
“Eat it raw? Who does that?” Zhang Wei shot back.
“You really killed it?” Pei Wu’s eyes turned red as she raised the zombie tooth at Zhang Wei again.
“No, no! We’ve been feeding it with the best food!” Zhao Zhenxiong quickly tried to smooth things over.
That cat was practically a little emperor—it had eaten a ton of dog food already. It pained him just thinking about it.
Zhao Zhenxiong was starting to feel more and more like a dog himself. He was even getting possessive over food now.
“How did you even steal my cat? I locked my room!”
“Well… you might not believe it, but your cat climbed into my water bucket by itself.”
“Water bucket?”
“Yeah, in a dorm room on the fourth floor.”
“Which one?”
“Room 406.”
“That’s right above me?!”
“Yep. It’s sleeping like a baby up there. Wanna go see?”
“Take me!”
“Hang on, hang on. Let’s finish looting this room first—see if there’s any food.”
“I still have some food. I can share a bit with you. Just give me back my cat.”
“Fine, fine. Panda, I’m assigning you a crucial mission—escort this young lady to get her cat!”
“Boss, I don’t dare go alone with her! Why don’t you go instead?”
“Lady Pei, how about you just go yourself? The door’s not locked. Just don’t close it all the way when you leave—we might need to climb back through that room later.”
Pei Wu was already out of patience by then. She turned and ran upstairs alone.
“Ugh, what a big-boobed, empty-headed woman,” Lu Renjia muttered under his breath.
He turned his head and saw Hu Die glaring daggers at him.
Not long after, Pei Wu came back down, carrying a large, fat white cat.
“That cat yours?” Zhang Wei glanced at it. Around its neck was a nylon loop with a little bell. But the small bead inside the bell was missing, so it made no sound. Definitely not a stray.
“None of your business.”
“How’s it not our business? That cat ate three days’ worth of our rations—all beef jerky!” Zhao Zhenxiong declared, completely lying through his teeth.
“You brought that on yourselves. You tricked it upstairs.”
Zhang Wei figured Pei Wu must’ve seen the bucket tied to a jump rope. That cat had been lured up with dog food.
“Whatever. When it’s older, it can work to pay off the debt,” Zhang Wei waved it off generously.
“Your Chinese cats can work?” Pei Wu’s eyes lit up.
“Of course.”
Zhang Wei remembered all those girls in traditional hanfu, holding cats and running booths in the park with signs that read: Touch – 5 yuan; Hold – 10 yuan; Take a photo – 20 yuan.
He’d spent ten yuan just to hold one of those girls.
If Pei Wu weren’t holding zombie teeth, he wouldn’t have minded hugging her, either.
Though Zhao Zhenxiong would probably jump out and say, Boss, leave the manual labor to me next time!
“By the way, let me ask—if your room is 306, and the cat was locked in there, why were you using the public shower on the fourth floor? Don’t dorm rooms have their own bathrooms?”
“Well… it’s because the water got cut off, and the toilet wouldn’t flush… and it got clogged…” Pei Wu answered, her face turning red.
“Ohh, I see. So you stocked up on water too?”
“Yeah. It rained for three days, and I saw you guys collecting water on the rooftop. So I went up there too.”
“You have a key to the roof?”
“I locked it myself.”
“You locked it? Why?”
“I was afraid those girls would go up and use my water to cook my cat.”
“‘Those girls’? There are other survivors in this building?” Zhang Wei suddenly tensed.
